You have been asked to head a team of student investigators to determine which Spanish speaking country the Spanish students at your high school should visit this year.

Introduction/Task/Process/Resources/Evaluation/Conclusion

Introduction

Your school's foreign language department has been offered a grant to send you and your classmates to travel through various Spanish-speaking countries.  The Spanish teacher has asked you to organize the investigation of the Spanish speaking countries of the world.  You were surprised to learn that Spanish is spoken by the majority of people in more than 20 countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Africa.   Overwhelmed by the large number of countries you will need to investigate, you decide to create an “Investigation Team.”

Task

In order to ensure that you gather information on all the countries, you decide first to create a list of all the Spanish-speaking countries and their capitals. Then in order to help you all make your decision about which country you want to travel to, each student on the team including yourself will pick a Spanish-speaking country to “investigate.” You will make a “trip” to the country via the internet and gather some information about the country and it’s people. When you have completed your “trip” and gathered the required information, you will be responsible for sharing information with the Spanish teacher and you’re your classmates. At the end of this Quest, you will be ready for your passport to the Spanish-speaking country of your choice. So pack your bags! You are getting ready to begin. You will need to use your previous knowledge as well as complete research and other tasks to find out new information, which will make your journey possible and enjoyable. Good luck!

The Process

You will be creating several products as you work through this WebQuest.

1.      Your first task is to discover which countries in the world the majority of the people speak Spanish.  You and the other students have created a form to collect all the information you feel is necessary to help you in making your choice of countries to visit.  So in the first part of the Hoja de trabajo” (worksheet), you will need to list 20 of the Spanish-speaking countries and each one’s capital in the space provided.  You may use the resources given below or search on your own.  (15 points)

2.      Your second task is to choose which one of these countries you are going to be responsible to explore.  Using the Las hoja de trabajdo (worksheet), you will need to find the following information for the Spanish-speaking country you have selected:  major cities, form of government and government leader, geographical features, major bodies of water, revenue sources, 2 significant historical events, 5 interesting places to see and why, typical foods, weather and climate, types of money and exchange rate with U.S.  As you gather the information, fill in the chart on the worksheet.  Please use COMPLETE sentences, good grammar, and accurate spelling in all your answers.  In order to complete the chart on the worksheet you will need to “travel” to each of these countries to gather the required information.  You may use the resources given below or search for your own.  (40 points)

3.      Your third task is to write a journal entry (a minimum of two paragraphs) explaining what kind of clothing students would need to pack, what activities you would recommend the students do while there, what the students could expect to eat, the places you would recommend they visit and any other information you wish to include.  Also include your opinion on the country and what you enjoyed the most about your stay.  Please use COMPLETE sentences, good grammar, and accurate spelling in all your answers.   (20 points)

4.      Your fourth task is to post to the discussion board in Blackboard.  Please tell all the members of the class which of the countries you “visited.” Would you recommend it as one of the countries that should be chosen for the school to travel through?  Why?  This needs to be a well-thought out response consisting of more than 4 sentences.  Be specific.  Give a detailed explanation of your recommendation(15 points)

5.   Next your fifth task is to post a response to someone else’s post about their choice of countries. Does this country feel like someplace you would like to visit?    (10 points)
