NOTE: 
must have accent marks in the 2nd and 3rd person
accent marks indicate the correct pronunciation and distinguish completely separate words
está (with accent) means he or she is or you are
esta (without accent mark) means this, as in esta cosa or this thing.
When to use estar (to be)

 

bullet

to discuss health, feelings, emotions

Estamos regular.
Mi profesora no está bien.
We are all right.
My teacher isn't well.

to tell where people or things are located

Estoy en el centro comercial.
Mi casa está en la ciudad.
I am at the mall.
Mi house is in the city.

with some prepositions to say where someone or something is in relation to someone or something else

La computadora está encima del escritorio.
¿Estás cerca del cine?
The computer is on the desk.
Are you near the movie theater?
