Los participios

Many adjectives in Spanish are actually past participles of verbs.
Frequently used with estar to describe conditions that are the result of a previous action.
Past participles that are used as adjectives must agree with nouns in number and gender.
May be used to describe a condition or an injury to a part of the body.
To form a past participle add -ado to the stem (drop infinitive ending) of -ar verbs and  -ido to the root of -er and -ir verbs.

infinitive stem past participle ending past participle translation
cortar  - ar = cort + ado = cortado cut
torcer - er = torc + ido = torcido twisted, sprained
herir - ir = her + ido = herido hurt
There are some irregular past participles.

Tienes el codo infectado. Your elbow is infected.
