Preterite of stem-changing -ir verbs

  -ar and -er verbs that change their stem in the present tense do not change in the preterite.   They are conjugated just like other regular preterite verbs, using the regular endings.
  -ir verbs that change their stem in the present tense do change in the preterite, but in a different way.
  Only using the first vowel of the stem change in the 3rd person forms of the preterite tense
  Change e to i and o to u in the third person, singular and plural of the preterite tense

  Seguir followed by present participle, ando/ iendo, (-ing form) means to keep on doing something

Reírse

  Has a special spelling in the preterite
  Uses accent marks in the preterite when the í is pronounced as a separate syllable.
