What's the weather like? Hace (to make, to do) is used in Spanish when talking about the weather.  Literally you are saying What weather does it make?
 

Hace buen tiempo.

good weather

The weather is good. Again notice the use of hace when describing the weather.  Buen is an adjective modifying (describing) weather.
 

Hace mal tiempo.

bad weather

The weather is bad.  Mal is an adjective modifying (describing)
 

Hace sol.

sunny weather

It is sunny. Literally:  It makes sun. 
 

Hace (mucho) viento.

windy weather

It is (very) windy. Literally:  It makes (a lot of) windMucho is an adjective modifying (describing) the noun, viento (wind).
 

Hace (mucho) frío.

cold weather

It is (very) cold. Literally:  It makes (a lot of) coldMucho is an adjective modifying (describing) the noun, frío (cold).  In this case mucho is translated as very.
 

Hace (mucho) calor.

hot weather

It is (very) hot. Literally:  It makes (a lot of) heat Mucho is an adjective modifying (describing) the noun, calor (heat).  In this case mucho is translated as very.
 

The following do not use hace:

 

Llueve. 

rainy weather

It is raining. Hace is not used here.  Instead when talking the rain, you use the verb llover (to rain). 
 

Nieva. 

snowy weather

It is snowing. Hace is not used here.  Instead when talking the snow, you use the verb nevar (to snow).

¿Adónde vas cuando __? Where do you go when___?  Literally:  To where do you go when ___? Notice that the preposition a (to) that normally follows ir is placed before and is attached to the word dónde.  Fill in the blank with a weather condition.

When ___, I go to ___. Fill in the first blank with the weather condition from the question.  Fill in the second blank with a place.
      Cuando hace frí0, no voy a ninguna parte. When it is cold, I don't go anywhere.

      Cuando hace calor, voy a la playa. When it is hot, I go to the beach.  
      Cuando hace calor, juego con mis amigos. When it is hot, I play with my friends. The question can be answered using other verbs in the first person.
