Describing people

  •     adjective must agree in gender with the person or thing they are describing. 

  •     masculine form to describe a male, end in -o

  •     feminine form to describe a female, end in -a

  •     adjectives that end in -e use the same form for both masculine and feminine.

 

Asking someone what "you are like":
    ¿Cómo eres ? What are you like? The subject of this question is , which is the familiar form of you.  The subject is not expressed, since the subject of eres is always .
    ¿Eres ___? Are you ___ ? Fill in the blank with an adjective that agrees in gender. 
      ¿Eres bajo? Are you short ? Use this form when speaking to a male.
      ¿Eres baja? Are you short? Use this form when seaking to a female.
 

Telling what you are like "I am":
    Soy ___. I am  ___. The subject soy is yo (I).
           Soy simpáticco. I am nice. Masculine form.  Use this form if you are a male.
   

       Soy  simpática.

I am nice.

Feminine form.  Use this form if you are a female.
 

Asking what someone else (i.e. he, she) is like:
    ¿Cómo es ____ ? What is ___ like? Singular form:  Literally, How is ___?  This is the form to use when you are talking about one person or thing.  Es (it is) is used to talk about one thing or person. 
          ¿Cómo es tu amigo? What is your friend like? Tu is a possessive adjective that means your.  Notice that it does not have an accent mark.
          ¿Cómo es Leonardo? What is Leonardo like?  
 

Telling what someone is like:
    (Él) es ___. He is ___. Singular masculine form:  This is the form to use when you are talking about one person or thing that is masculine.  Es (it is) is used to talk about one thing or person. 
            (Él) es simpático. He is nice. The adjective ends in -o, since the subject is masculine.
            Pablo es serio. The book is good. The adjective ends in -o, since the subject is masculine.
    (Ella) es ___. She is ___. Singular feminine form:  This is the form to use when you are talking about one person or thing that is feminine.  Es (it is) is used to talk about one thing or person. 
   

        (Ella) es simpática.

      She is nice.

The adjective ends in -a, since the subject is feminine.
   

        Elena es graciosa.

      The class is large.

The adjective ends in -a, since the subject is feminine.
