Gustar literally means
to be pleasing to. It
is used in a special construction to express the Spanish equivalent of
the English to like.
You are literally saying
it (singular) or they (plural)
are pleasing to .... (me, her, him, you,
us, or
them).
To express who is doing the liking (or literally
to whom something
is pleasing), indirect pronouns are used. For now we
will be using me (to me) or
te (to you).
Only two forms of the verb
gustar are used frequently.
First is the
singular form gusta, which is used with
only one item. The second form is the
plural form gustan, which
is used with more than one item.
