Like to do

When using gustar with one or more than one infinitive, you use the singular form, gusta

The most basic form of a verb is called the infinitive.

An infinitive tells the meaning of the verb without naming any subject or tense.

In English, infinitives usually have the word to in front of them.
               to swim, to read, to write

In Spanish, infinitives don't have a separate word like to  in front of them.  Spanish infinitives are only one word and always end in -ar, -er, or -ir.

nadar, leer, escribir

Just like nouns, infinitives can be used after gustar to say like to do.

Always use the singular form gusta with infinitives, even if there is more than one infinitive.
               Le gusta jugar los videojuegos.  (He likes to play video games.)
               Le gusta escuchar la música, ver televisión, y ir al cine.  (He likes to listen to music, watch television, and
                              go to the movies.
)

Like to do

Even though we usually translate gustar as to like, it literally means to please.  So when you say Me gustan los deportes, you are actually saying, Sports are pleasing to meSports is the subject of the sentence while to me is the indirect object.

Follow this pattern to construct a sentence using the verb gustar:
               indirect object + correct form of gustar + subject

The subject in a sentence using gustar usually follows the verb.  If the subject is singular, use gusta.  With a plural subject use gustan.
