Querer

We have learned that querer is the infinitive form of the verb.  It is translated to want.  The forms we have learned at this time are:
 

(yo) quiero I want

   
 

(tú) quieres you want    
 

(él/ella) quiere he/she/one person wants    
         
Talking to a friend:  General question requires more than a yes - no answer



 

¿Qué quieres hacer (tú)? What do you want to do? Since you are asking a person directly, you use the subject (you) with its  correct verb form which ends in -es.

(Quiero comprar muchas cosas.)
I want + infinitive.
(I need to buy many things.)
Since you are answering a question that was directed to you, you use the subject  yo (I) with its correct verb form which ends in -0.

This is a yes-no question, which names a specific activity given in the infinitive form.
